My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend is a romantic comedy starring Alyssa Milano about a woman that has to choose between two really great men.

THIS IS THE PLACE

So I was surfing on Netflix Instant Viewing the other night and had settled down with a cute little romantic chick flick I had never heard of. As I’m watching it I’m thinking to myself, “Wow, I need to find out where this movie was filmed. This town has a cool atmosphere. Some great old buildings, some interesting street views, pretty scenery.” At one point the couple in the movie drive up to a point that overlooks the city, and lo and behold, it was a place I recognized. This place. Salt Lake City, Utah.

This revelation left me a bit shocked. Really, truly bewildered. I mean, I’m sick of it here. I long, seriously, llllllooonnnggg, to move far, far away. And yet while I was watching the movie, I couldn’t believe I was enjoying the setting before my very eyes.

Last year I moved to Las Vegas for about six months. I loved it there. It was warm. I wore shorts and a tank top to the park on Christmas Eve and laughed out loud at all the crazy people bundled up in coats and scarves. There was diversity in that city. It was a melting pot for people from all over the world. Yet there were so many things about Utah, and specifically, Salt Lake City, that I missed.

The mountains here are twenty minutes away. There are hiking trails and footpaths all over that I rack some heavy mileage on. I love these mountains. I drive up and down every canyon on the Wasatch Front for the simple pleasure of taking a beautiful drive. That didn’t happen in Vegas. You can drive there for an hour and still be surrounded by pavement and casinos. Don’t get me wrong, I loved living in Las Vegas. I thrived there. It was really hard to come back to Salt Lake. And I plan on moving away from here again. Soon. Somewhere with a beach. But, I have realized, I do love it here. I love downtown. I love the avenues. I love the great parks, and the walking trail by the river, and the wide streets, and familiarity with every part of this beautiful city. Salt Lake City isn’t so bad.

CIN’S REVIEW

This wasn’t a mainstream movie, and I think that’s part of why I enjoyed it. Rather than getting caught up in a big budget and overindulgent story line, My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend kept it simple. That’s how life is. We don’t usually meet people the way people in the movies seem to meet. The story was kept to basics of how Jesse got to know each of these great guys, and the fun things she did with each of them that made her fall in love with them.
