Terminator 2: Judgement Day is about the young John Connor, a leader in the future, that has one cybernetic organism to protect him, while another, more advanced Terminator is trying to kill him.

Terminator 2: Judgement Day was the beginning of the end for me. Growing up, I was never allowed to watch R rated movies. So at 16 years old, a sophomore in high school, imagine my surprise (and delight)when a substitute teacher brought this movie to class! I suffered through the guilt, the shame, and the scorn of my friends that chose to leave the classroom rather than be subjected to such EVIL! And I reveled in every delicious minute! After that, each time my parents were gone for more than 2 hours, I had an R rated movie lined up to watch in their absence. So thanks, Mr. Smith, and Arnold, for popping that cherry… one of the best “firsts” EVER!

  • Starring: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton and Edward Furlong
  • Rated: R for strong sci-fi action and violence, and for language.
  • Released: 1991
  • Genre: Science Fiction, Action
  • My Opinion: Not only the best Terminator movie, but also one of the best science fiction movies of all time.

“Three billion human lives ended on August 29th, 1997. The survivors of the nuclear fire called the war Judgment Day. They lived only to face a new nightmare: the war against the machines. The computer which controlled the machines, Skynet, sent two Terminators back through time. Their mission: to destroy the leader of the human resistance, John Connor. The first Terminator was programmed to strike in the year 1984, before John was born. It failed. The second was set to strike at John himself when he was still a child. As before, the resistance was able to send a lone warrior, a protector for John. It was just a question of which one of them would reach him first.”

Terminator 2: Judgement Day is filled with bigger, better explosions, a little more humor, and a much more hindering feeling of inevitable doom than the other Terminator movies. The terminator sent to kill John is more adaptable, being made out of liquid metal, and thus, much harder to destroy. This time around, Arnold is the good guy, and is hilarious as young John Connor tries to teach him to be cool. The famous line invoked here: “Hasta La Vista, Baby”. T2 really is one you can watch without seeing the other movies in the series. I’d love to hear your thoughts, please leave me a comment!

  • Terminator Salvation: John Connor (played by Christian Bale) leads post-apocalyptic survivors in the battle against the machines. No Arnold in this one, but still an excellent movie.
